Every Photo has a story.
I love the sounds and the crowds of Walt Disney World, but sometimes I need a quiet place to relax, to take a vacation while on my Disney vacation. I think few Orlando vacationers would associate a day on the water with a trip to Disney. But there are lakes aplenty, and they could be calling your name, especially when your supply of park tickets runs dry, and you’re still looking for some fun.
There are 2 lakes right on either side of the Magic Kingdom theme park, Bay Lake and the Seven Seas Lagoon. While many visitors have spent some time there on a transportation boat, like the Disney ferryboat pictured above, not as many have actually sat down on a beach chair to soak up some sunny vacation rays or toured the lakes from a rented boat.
Picture this…All 450 acres of Bay Lake is located right next to the Magic Kingdom. Disney by the Numbers supplies some interesting numerical information about the beach side of the Magic Kingdom theme park area. There are 4.5 miles of beach line between the Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake, which is roughly comprised of 2.4 billion gallons of water. For the fisherman in your life that may not want to spend all his vacation time standing in long roller coaster rides, fishing is allowed.
Disney by the Numbers reports 70,000 fingerling bass were originally stocked in Bay Lake when WDW first opened. So there’s plenty of fish to catch but none to display on wall when you get back home. A 14.25 pound largemouth bass is the biggest bass ever caught on Bay Lake, but that’s not exactly official, because it’s strictly catch and release fishing. Grab your pole, but be prepared to toss your catch back.
Guided Fishing Excursions are available at twelve Disney resort marinas and Downtown Disney. Call 407- 939-2277 (BASS) for more information. You can book your fishing excursion online and a fishing coordinator will contact you in 12 – 24 hours.
Think you might want to try some boating? Disney owns more than 750 watercraft, a number that places WDW in the top five companies with the largest fleet of boats in the world.
What type of boats are for rent on the Disney property? Walt Disney World’s official site, click here for more information, describes motorized and non-motorized watercrafts including Sea Raycers by Sea Ray® boats, sailboats, SunTRACKER® pontoon boats, Boston Whaler Montauk boats, pedal boats, kayaks and canoes.
Here’s a list of resorts where can you rent your Disney boat for some fun-filled hours at sea, or Disney lake rather.
- Disney’s Beach Club Resort
- Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort
- Disney’s Contemporary Resort
- Disney’s Port Orleans Resort
- Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa

Now picture yourself on a boat, the wind in your hair, with a Mickey hat on your head. Just don’t jump in for a quick dip, for swimming in either lake is strictly prohibited. This gives you more time to work on your tan anyway.
Thanks for coming along for a photographical ride!
