Getting through Orlando Security at the Airport

English: A TSA officer screens a piece of luggage.

By Amanda C.

I have very rarely given much thought about getting souvenirs through security at the MCO (Orlando International Airport), but as I am going “ OOOOO I’ve got to get one of those!” That one of those is a death star hot potato game. I was describing it at the ball park last night and one of the mom’s said “Good luck getting that through security. It sounds like it looks like a bomb.” I was like woooah hold up! A bomb? No way would I have thought of that. That got me to thinking of what the TSA must see go through the scanners and do they flip out seeing it going through in checked luggage and open your suitcase or do they go ehhh and let it go?
Some of those great souvenirs: From Pirates of the Caribbean: The dagger, scabbard, and ball and chain and the hook. From Star Wars: The Light Saber. From Frontierland: The 3 foot long hunting rifle and pistol. Tomorrowland: Buzz Light years ray gun.
I’m sure Universal and Sea World have some crazy souvenirs as well that would make a normal person go what the heck if it was seen in your luggage. So the question for you readers…. Has the TSA searched your luggage because of the goodies you stashed away?

Loving our Disney Pets

By Frances

Our pets are some of the most vital parts of our daily lives. Their unconditional love is part of today’s month of Love on Mouze Kateerz. Please enjoy pictures of ours and our readers beloved Disney inspired pets.

Mufasa

Please meet Mufasa. He is our ever so loving cat named after the Lion King. We adopted him from our neighbor a couple of months back and he was already named Mufasa so we kept it. He came from a litter of kittens. His brothers and sisters are: Pumba, Simba, Ed, Scar, Nalah & Raffaki.~ Frances

Julie Ann Gus Gus

Please meet Gus Gus – named after Gus in Cinderella. He is a rat terrier and when he was a baby he look like a fat little mouse :) ~ Julie Ann

cat

Please say hello to our cat named Luke Skywalker.  Our son, 7,  picked out the name.  Luke will
turn 2 in April.  I wanted to name him Yoda but I gave into Luke.  We would like to get another
cat and either have Darth or Leia.  ~ Jennifer D.

Here is our “Princess” Belle.  We had lost our kitty in July of 2012 after having him for 16 years.  He was our childrens(10 and 7) first loss of a pet.  They kept asking for a new pet ever since.  My husband and I kept saying maybe in the Spring we would think about it.  In late September Belle started showing up on our deck here and there, then everyday sleeping on our patio chairs.  We started feeding her because the weather was getting cold.  I called the Human Society to see if they could find out if she belonged to someone.  They called me back that afternoon, and she was thrown out by her current family because they didn’t want her.  She is a year and a half, de-clawed and fixed.  Just thrown out because she didn’t fit in there life anymore!!!  She pulled on all of our heartstrings and now is part of our family!!  She is now the Princess of our house and rules the roost!   We love her very much.
Thanks!!

I don’t have a Disney dog by name.  We adopted Liam after he was nearly a year old from a New York Humane Society.  He was not named after any Disney characters and seldom even rocks Disney accessories but one Christmas I managed to get him to slip on his Mickey Mouse ears.  He does enjoy watching Disney movies with me, particularly Lady and the Tramp and for some reason he really likes animation styles like Nightmare Before Christmas.  He has enjoyed many toys and treats from my husband and my adventures in the parks including a “Pitch a Stitch” frisbee and Mickey Tire.  I would send pics but those toys have since been destroyed beyond recognition. lol.

Let’s Fight Hunger, Mouzies!

feedingam

Hey friends! Here at Mouze Kateerz we are joining with some of our favorite bloggers to help raise money for a cause that is close to our hearts and everyone can participate!

Head on over to our Feeding America page for more info and donate whatever you can afford to help us.  We will be joining with our blogging friends for the next two weeks- donations are due by January 30th and we are hoping to raise $1,000 with your help.  $1000 would provide 8,000 meals to those in need thanks to the partnerships Feeding America has with food pantries across the country.  EIGHT THOUSAND! Can you believe it?! Just take a quick minute and think about it and you can probably spare $1.  If you can’t we understand, but due to the recent changes in our economy there are families without the ability to feed themselves and no one deserves to go to bed hungry!

Help Mouze Kateerz, Picturing Disney and our other blogging friends and lets try to end hunger in America, one meal at a time!

A Running Mouze: Update Amanda

By Amanda C.

Second surgery completed and doctor release given so off to the gym I’ve been going with my grumbling 13 year old son. Official weigh in a shuddering 259.4 lbs. I gave the trainer my list of injuries and the crunching noise in my knees the trainer recommended circuit training to strengthen the muscles. Yippy was my thought. I asked about their water aerobics class and the trainer said “ Most of our Silver Sneakers do this program”. After learning that the Silver Sneakers were mainly baby boomers I was IN! My thinking behind being in with the older generation was simple. They have joint issues like me.

So the next night I went in excited about working out in the water, geared up with my leopard printed skirt bathing suit and into the water I went. An hour later I was exhausted, my legs were jelly, but I had made 6 new friends. These ladies work out four nights a week and I learned occasionally on Saturday’s as well. So all in I go! I even tried to get the grumbly 13 year old to go with me to the next class, he shook his head adamantly and said he wasn’t getting into a pool with a bunch of old ladies! I looked at him shocked, because I got included in the old ladies bunch. He quickly amended himself which made me laugh.

I’m a week into the exercising and diet change (cut down on the cola and bread and a few more veggies) and am down 3 lbs. Official weigh in this week was 256.1lbs! The legs are still jelly when I get out of the pool, according to Tina (Water Goddess!) that should only last another week or so. Muscles haven’t seen this much action since I was a junior in college and running around on the football field as a flag flipper! More next week as we are in the week before Thanksgiving and my 38th birthday and the food will be plentiful at my house

A Running Mouze… A New Recruit

Expedition Everest, Theme Park Rides, Disney's Animal Kingdom

By Amanda C.

So when Frances put out the call for Mouze Kateerz staff to join her for the Run Disney Expedition Everest Challenge I was gungho about it. A goal to get in shape for and something I could do with my girls who love to run. A simple doctor’s appointment brought all of that up short.
I had planned to have a simple outpatient procedure done. When I went to the pre op appointment they found something else wrong that would require a second operation. Not a problem, I thought to myself, two at once fabulous! The morning of the surgeries my doctor came in devastated saying they’d only be able to perform one surgery because of an insurance issue. ISSUES?! Just what I wanted to hear while I’m sitting on the bed with my funny colored footies (Little Miss Match really should get in on this cause they were scratchy hospital issue ICK) and a lovely purple paper hospital gown. I love my doctor though. He left saying that I should come up to his office after the surgery and sign the insurance forms all over again for the other half of the surgery. This was laughable knowing that I would be in no condition to sign anything. However, a few minutes later he was back down in the OR area with the insurance forms for me to sign so that I could begin the waiting process all over again.
Now here I a month out of the first surgery and feeling well enough to walk the neighborhood finally and the second surgery looming next week. The doctor says the recovery won’t take as long as the first for which I’m glad as the month of October is full of kid activities. The Everest Challenge is the first weekend in May so plenty of time for me to be able to train and get up to a 15 minute mile! The good news though is in the last month I’ve dropped 5 pounds!!! Stay tuned for more !!!!

A Running Mouze! Training for Disney’s Expedition Everest Challenge~Reasons Why I Should Train!

Expedition Everest, Theme Park Rides, Disney's Animal Kingdom

By Frances

When I first thought about blogging about training for the Expedition Everest Challenge, I’m not sure that I thought it all the way through:-) As I posted before, I don’t like to run but I can walk. My biggest problem is finding the time to walk. I have my on own vacation planning business. I home school my 8 year old daughter. My four year old son has special needs. My husband has his own landscape business and he’s in the middle of big installation. ETC… I’m full of reasons why I can’t train but I decided to find the reason why I should train.

1. My health will only improve if I start walking. It diffidently won’t get worse.

2. I will teach my children by example about setting a goal and achieving it.

3. My husband will willingly go to Disney when we do this challenge.

4. I will be able to ride Expedition Everest at night after the challenge and scavenger hunt.

5. I can lose a few of my baby weight pounds. My youngest is 4. I guess it’s time to get rid of them.

6. To prove to myself that I can!

The Mouze Kateerz family hopes to hear from all of you who will be training for upcoming RUN Disney events!

Thank you for stopping by Mouze Kateerz. We value feedback from our readers and welcome your comments.

Expedition Everest Challenge or Bust!

Expedition Everest, Mount Everest, Animal Kingdom, Animal Kingdom park, roller coaster, Disney Everest,

My husband,Josh, is an avid runner. He starts in the first group for Atlanta’s Peachtree Road Race 10K every year. The first group starts right My husband Joshbehind the elite runners that are paid to run. I’m not an avid runner. I would rather wax my legs than run. On the flip side, I could easily spend a week a month at the Walt Disney World Resort and he would rather wax his legs. In an effort to find a common goal, I will willingly train for the Expedition Everest Challenge that will take place on May 4, 2013 and my husband will excitedly go with me to Disney. Over the next several months, myself and other Mouze Kateerz will blog about our ups and downs in training. Some of us are fast runners and some of us are slow. But being a Mouze Kateerz means that we will Go! Go! Go! We would like you to join us and meet us on May 4, 2013 in the Animal Kingdom Parking Lot. Who knows we may all end up having matching shirts on:-)

Expedition Everest Challenge features:

  • 5K Trek includes obstacles and scavenger hunt clues along the path
  • Clues to solve before you reach the summit of the 5th Adventure
  • Course through Disney’s Animal Kingdom® Theme Park at Night
  • Disney Entertainment on-course and at the post-race celebration
  • Event Weekend Transportation from the Event Host Resorts

Each participant in the Expedition Everest Challenge will receive:

  • ChronoTrack B-Tag Timed Event
  • Special 5th Edition Expedition Everest Challenge Finisher medal
  • Post-race refreshments
  • Admission to a special post-race party inside Disney’s Animal Kingdom® Theme Park

More information about the race and the kids race to come.

My first day training was September 2, 2012. My family and I went to Swift Cantrell Park in Kennesaw, Georgia for a family walk. The park has a nice paved trail that is 1 mile long. My husband, kids and I walk/ran .5 mile and I walked a little over a mile while they played at the play ground. The picture to the left was taken after 1 1/2 hours of playing. I look forward to hearing about all of you adventures in training.

Epcot’s Candlelight Processional: A Holiday Event That Is A Must Do For The Family

By Shannan.

The Candlelight Processional at Disney’s Epcot is an annual event held during the holiday season.  Famous guest narrators retell the story of Christ’s birth with various national mass choirs and a 50 piece orchestra.

Neil Patrick Harris

A friend of our family has been lucky enough to have her high school choir be invited to sing. The event takes place at the American Gardens theater and fills up quickly.  We waited for over an hour for a “chance” to get a seat.

My whole family agrees that it is well worth the wait and really gets you into the Christmas spirit.  The theater fills quickly and being in line does NOT guarantee a seat.

To ensure seating, you can book a Candlelight Dinner package at one of several Epcot restaurants.  This also allows for preferred seating for the Candlelight Processional and for the Illuminations fireworks display.  This is definitely a do not miss holiday event.

The following is information for the 2013 Candlelight Processional
